Shahul and Shafiq

Shahul:

Growing up in a kampong life is really peaceful. There are coconut trees that I could climb on. Birds chirping all around me. As time passes, kampong houses are less likely to be found.

I like playing outdoors. I made many friends who also loved playing outdoors. Playing outdoors is really calming.

I like to go to school. I have made many friends in school. But I have to walk a far distance as my kampong has no buses.

I studied really hard to enter university but I have no money to pay my tuition fees so I worked part-time. I graduated after 4 years and got a good office job and I’m very happy.

When I was young, I had little to no money but I worked hard. Over the years, Singapore has progressed and I like Marina Bay. Now I have money but I’m no longer young.

Shafiq:

Singapore is seen as a developed country. I like how our housing estates are well connected with public transportation with many trees around.

While on my way to a hawker centre to have my lunch, I admired how even our banks are so established. OCBC seems to be everywhere.

I bought one of my favourite satays from Warong Haron. At the same time, I was in the midst of a meeting. Work and life have to balance.

I went back home. I love my dining area which is very conducive to work at. I stay up at night to finish all my work.

My parents bought me a Nike bag. I was excited to pack my bag for the next day before bedtime.
