Wong Peng Thim and Mui Wei Qi

Wong Peng Thim:

My name is Peng Thim and my wife is Chin Dollie. We have been staying in Pasir Ris for 28 years since 1992. We stay in Block 232, Pasir Rise Drive 4 and the picture shows our block.

Both of us love seas sports, we always canoe at the Pasir Ris seafront in the early 1990’s and we kept our canoe in the PA Holiday Flat Storeroom. There was no sea sports club in Pasir Ris park and we stood under/beside a coconut tree to teach students how to use the paddle and put on a safety jacket, etc. The PA Sea Sports Club was built in March 1992. Up to now, there are no changes and I am still involved in the sea sports activities.

Both of us would go to the Sea Sports Club to canoe on the weekend afternoon. Sometimes, both of us would cycle around Pasir Ris Park in the morning.

There was a Longkang fishing village that was built in Pasir Ris Park in the 1990’s and was operated by the fish farm. Longkang fishing is an age-old national past-time for kids and our family really loves the longkang fishing village in Pasir Ris Park. The older generations grew up in Kampongs that were surrounded by longkang, catching fish and tadpoles was perfect entertainment for kids in the older days. The longkang fishing village was demolished and the place was returned back to NParks. We miss this place.

We hope that Pasir Ris Town would have more recreational and leisure in the future and a greener place to live in.

Mui Wei Qi:

My name is Wei Qi and I live with my parents and my elder brother. My parents moved to Block 146 when I was a few months old. Now that I am 28 years old, I practically was born in Pasir Ris and I spent my entire childhood here. Pasir Ris has been amazing, there were parks where I first learnt how to cycle, there were chalets that I used to celebrate Birthdays and various milestones.

Pasir Ris has always been a huge playground for outdoor activities. My parents used to bring us to Pasir Ris Park for Bird Watching, cycling, BBQ, and catching ‘Pokemon’. There used to be an indoor theme park called Escape theme park too. We always visit the theme park and bring back different plushies home every time.

Today, most of the indoor activities are no longer in Pasir Ris. I hope for more indoor activities such as Escape Room, museum, etc. I want my children to be able to enjoy Pasir Ris like I do, learn about how Pasir Ris has improved over the years.

My weekends are spent watching movies at downtown east. This cinema is my dad’s favourite as he claims the seats are more comfortable. Pasir Ris for the win! After movies, we would always get a good dinner buffet. We used to visit Manle at downtown east too. It provides an affordable seafood spread, exactly what my mom loves.

Pasir Ris has a good record of having good food around the corner and I hope it stays like this. So my friends would always be jealous of the options I have for breakfast, lunch, tea break, dinner, and supper.

When I was growing up, my dad would also bring me to farm way 1/2, where there is a whole stretch of dog farms and fish farms. While my dad shops for his fish, my brother and I would run across the road to catch stray puppies. Of course, the puppy’s mom was upset and it chased us down while we ran. PS: We returned it to her in the end. Those were good memories. We also got to see dogs running around in a specific area. This means free petting for me. We played with dogs all day. Now that it is gone, I am kind of sad and I miss how it used to be so crowded in the evenings.

Pasir Ris has been really great and I am so thankful I grew up here. I hope to be able to start my future family here too with transport and leisure activities so easily available. It would be great if we could have more greenery, ponds or nature stuff around. Also, childhood games such as chess tables should be made available at more Blocks. It would be cool for my children to learn these games from young.
