Salim Bin Ali and Kaylee Li

Salim Bin Ali:

Salim, a young boy who was born with Polio in his right leg, was energetic and high-spirited. He is the eldest of 7 children and came from a poor family.

He liked to play football and catch fish in ‘longkang’. Even though he had a problem with his leg, he still lived his life like a normal child. He only studied until primary 6 because he needed to find a job in order to look after his family as the eldest son.

His first job as a salesman at a lighting shop along Jalan Besar lasted for 5 years. He then continued to work in logistics, such as carrying boxes. After 10 years, he switched jobs again and then worked in the paper industry for 38 years. He got married to a beautiful wife and is blessed with 3 kids.

The journey throughout his life has taught him a lot. Along the way, he realised his passion for volunteering. He joined as a Grassroots Leader. From there, he exposed himself to learning more and has the feeling of satisfaction from giving to the community despite his difficulties.

He is really grateful and proud of serving in volunteering work for more than 35 years. Despite not being physically abled and as educated as others, that did not stop him from achieving his passion and goals. “When there’s a will, there’s a way”.

Kaylee Li:

Kaylee and her family live in an apartment near Beauty World MRT. There are three swimming pools near her home! Kaylee always likes playing in the pools. Kaylee has four pets: three turtles and one fighter fish. She loves them very much.

Kaylee's favourite sports game is table tennis. She has started table tennis as her CCA since Primary 2. When she became a Primary 3 student, she was selected for the school team. She was very proud of that.

Kaylee likes computer games, such as "Roblox". Her one and only dream was to become a YouTuber. Kaylee has been always telling her dad that she wants to be a YouTuber. With Dad's help, Kaylee had made her first video uploaded online. She became a YouTuber.

Kaylee studies at RGPS (Raffles Girls' Primary School). She has a lot of friends. They have a great time at school. In primary 3, she learnt a new subject, Science. Kaylee is fond of reading Young Scientist books. She has about one hundred in her collection.

Kaylee loves drawing. She likes drawing wolfs and a comic character -- "Naruto". She enjoys herself very, very much when creating her artwork. Kaylee learnt from Naruto that we should never give up even if there are challenges. Nothing will stop her from completing her goal.
