Pang Loo Seng and Daniel Kwang

Pang Loo Seng:

I feel very lucky in my own life! I have love and support from family, sincere friends, and caring elders and teachers who have accompanied me to grow in a loving and safe environment. In school, workplace, community services, social activities, I have made many friends who appreciate me, have positive energy and lead me. They encourage me, help me, unlock me and are willing to guide me selflessly, willing to remind me at all times, walk through the fog and muddy journey of life.

Over the past 30 over years, since 1982. Heartbreaking experience of participating in community organisations, like a dream, farewell to me by the ruthless reality. I realise that the generous love and responsibility of our Grassroots organisation Advisor is so truthful. We should continue to pass on this love and responsibility in benefiting the people around us.

Appropriately let others feel that “spring” is not far away, if it is possible. It is also a kind of kindness. Helping others is the basis of happiness and happy alone is not as happy as everyone else is my passion of life.

OMG! My wedding dinner was held at block 57B, New upper Changi road, Community Hall. This is where the PAP HQ is now situated. UNBELIEVABLE? Oh yah! I was married in 1980 and was working with HDB Bedok area office at the same address as PAP HQ. What a coincidence!

It has inspired me to involve in community service and political activities since I was elected to be the chairman of PA Tanah Merah Youth Executive Committee in 1982 and appointed as chairman, PAP Tanah Merah Branch Youth Group. Thank you for giving me the opportunities to start up my new life of journey.

Daniel Kwang:

The start of my journey has only begun in 2013 where I love to make a decision that would change my life. I have to decide between opting for the work scholarship that comes with 2 years bond or further studies at university. I chose the latter and it only started after serving my national service (NS) in 2016. During my time in NS, I have made various plans on things to do in university such as CCA involvement. In my heart, I wanted to do things that can make a difference. However, the community service club in university required high commitment in terms of travelling. That did not stop my search for activities to do.

I started my volunteering journey by helping out the advisor with the meet-the-people (MPS) session back in 2017. Through MPS, I got to learn a lot about social issues that our residents faced. As a petition writer, I have the responsibility of ensuring that their concerns were well addressed to our advisors and the relevant agencies. The service at MPS has made me developed great interpersonal skills which my friends discovered and mentioned during one of our casual conversations.

I have the honour of visiting Istana for dinner appreciation organised by the party in 2019. In fact, that was the first time I got to visit Istana and I have developed an interest in visiting more places of interest or knowledge in this red dot.

I graduated in Jan 2020 from NUS, Computer Science. The journey was not easy. I faced many challenges and I will always tell myself to look up to the best student in class. “If they can do it, so can I” and with this mentality and group of wonderful and helpful classmates, I was able to pull through the tough times and graduated with not only new knowledge but also experience that you would never get outside.

It is pleasant to see our senior generation were able to spend the fruits of achievement with their loved ones. However, I am still on the lookout for my other half to join me on the journey to explore Singapore and if we dream big, the world. I would like to leave our footprints in those who crosses path with us. Meanwhile, I am still seeking new hobbies as I do not want my life to revolve around just work. I want fun experiences and moments that I would be proud to share it with my future generations.
