Treat One Another with Love and Kindness

Koh Hui Cheh:

One of the greatest lessons that I have learnt in my life is to help one another in the community.

Back in the past, I lived in the kampung and often played with my other friends who are of different races and socio-economic status. Despite our differences, I enjoyed bonding with them over childhood games, food, and chit-chat sessions.

In fact, during difficult times, my friends provided me with help and support. This community spirit could only be made possible with the trust, respect and harmony that we shared.

Besides that experience, I remembered being caught in a heavy flood which resulted in many houses being destroyed.

Saint Andrew Primary School stepped up and offered me food and shelter during that tough period. I am very thankful for their help and deeply felt their care and support.

My life experiences reinforced the importance of showing kindness and care for the people around us, and the importance of fostering trust, respect and harmony. We need to appreciate one another and see past our differences, showing gratitude and kindness to those around us.

Koh Wen Xuan Jaycie:

Similarly, one of the greatest lessons I have learnt is to exemplify sincerity, love and kindness to the different communities I interact with.

One of the memorable experiences which taught me this lesson was when I initiated a project to teach English to the children in Myanmar.

The conversations that I shared with the children were very meaningful and heartfelt, and it showed me that kindness transcends beyond differences in languages, cultures and experiences. The children were all very kind and nice to my team and I, and interacting with them often made our days.

Through my schooling days, I have often found myself being surrounded by teachers and friends who are always looking out for one another, to make sure that we are all coping well. Through words of encouragement and welfare packs, I often felt care and support from communities around me.

Likewise, I believe in extending care, love and support to people around me, and I believe acts of kindness can go a long way in bringing warmth to others.
