The Kindness
Bhanumatui P T:
Maya at a young age of 10 years old, was very inspired by her father's tendency of helping others in need. In the early stages of world war 2, he used to talk about how he would provide food and clothing to those who were hiding in tunnels.
These tunnels were used to shelter civilians from the bombing going on around them. Influenced by her father’s generosity, Maya continued following her father’s footsteps by offering help to others in need.
There was one instance, where Maya noticed her classmate did not have money to buy her lunch during recess. Remembering the words from her father, she decided to step in to buy food for her classmate. This was the first moment Maya offered help to others without expecting anything in return. Maya felt happy when she came to a person’s aid.
Since then she has continued to help people generously. When she met her life partner she realized that he too is a generous and caring person who goes out of his way to help people. The feeling of great satisfaction in making someone's life better.
The joy of helping people and compassion is a trait that is stuck with Maya till today. Because of her attitude, it has influenced many people alike and she continues to spread the joy of compassion with others.
Leasha Sonam:
Lavanya finds out that her 4 years old brother is autistic. A term fairly new to her. A day in the special needs school opened up a new world to Lavanya and she realised that there is so much to give back to the community, especially to special needs children. She started developing the nature to care and have compassion by helping the younger brother to do simple tasks for him.
As Lavanya grew, because of her brother’s condition, she started to develop the nature of compassion and started connecting with people who are in need of help. As she walks back home from school, when she meets people who are selling tissue papers or comes up to her for food, she takes the extra time to help the individuals out.
As Lavanya aged, whenever she is in public, she is able to notice people who are in need of help in a crowd. She extended her help in the old folks home and brother’s special needs school. Lavanya felt happy whenever she realised that the help extended brings a smile to a person.
Lavanya had the opportunity to work in a television program that helped lower-income families and she jumped right into helping families even outside the program. During this time, she met Maya. They developed a close connection and had moments of appreciation on how compassion and kindness is important in life.
Like a quote says, “Do things for people, not because of who they are or what they do in return but because of who you are.” It is The Kindness that brought Maya and Lavanya together. The belief in spreading joy and compassion is a trait that they will continue to advocate. Each small action counts and however possible both of them will contribute in their own ways.
